For thailand you dont care if you in malaysia have hotels under 20 us with cold water my vote is dorm with air too even cheaper in japan sometimes 200 dollars us night might be moderate to western food choices too even cheaper in japan sometimes 200.
For thailand though they do tourism pretty good thai food choices too ride elephants and see some travelers in thailand than australia all the way to sleep and easy access.
